Proctored exams are overseen by an impartial individual (called a proctor) who monitors or supervises a student while he or she is taking an exam - available 24/7.
You will need the following system requirements to complete the exam:
- a desktop or a laptop computer
- a working webcam
- a stable internet connection (115kb/s)
- Flash Player 11 or higher
When you reach the certification exam in the online training, you will be prompted to:

The applet will run while connected to your proctor and remove itself when the proctoring is complete.

1. What if I don't have a webcam?
Having a webcam is the fastest and most reliable way to successfully complete the exam. Complete your training. Connect to the proctor and the proctor will check your system to determine the best options for proctoring your final test based on your available technology. Exams completed without a webcam are subject to audit/review. No exceptions.
2. What are the acceptable forms of Identification?
You must provide an identification document that proves your legal name or is an exact match to the name on your online Smart Serve account.
The identification must have a photo, date of birth and a valid expiry date.
The document must be issued by either the federal, provincial* or territorial government of Canada.
Foreign government issued passports are acceptable, however, the information must be legible to an English speaking proctor (test supervisor).
*Ontario Health Card is not an acceptable form of identification. As per the Personal Health Information Protection Act, third parties are not allowed to collect or record any information from the card.
3. Why do I need a photo ID?
The proctor needs to verify that your identity matches the information provided during registration.
4. How will the webcam be used during the final exam?
The proctor will use the webcam to validate your identity and monitor your immediate surroundings during the final exam.
5. Can I take the training on a mobile device?
No. At this time tablets such as Ipad or Windows Surface and smartphones with IOS, Android or Windows Phone operating systems are not supported. Wireless hotspots are also not supported due to inconsistent bandwidth.
